Is LOTRO Worth Playing Now That It's Free?
I know that the free version has less than the VIP version, but is it worth picking up?
For those that don't know, LOTRO = Lord of the Rings Online.

Any game based on a movie should not be on the shelves or brought to MMO.

I tried it for 2 months, it's an okay game, not bad, but not exceptional either, try it free for 1-2 months as i did, and see if you like it though, it's what you like, and not what we like, that matters.

Yeah it's a pretty fun game. Much more PvE oriented than GW, and well it's more or less WoW with better graphics and has a better lore/story background.
If you're not into that WoW stuff, it probably wont' be for you. If you like LOTR, you might enjoy the game for the story and places you get to see.
Junato that is by far the funniest (and most ignorant) thing I've ever read! LOTRO isn't based on the movies, it's based on the books.
And it's one of the best adaptations of a book to game that I've ever played. Although it is becoming more of a "game" than it used to be, so it's losing a bit of that LOTR feel.

I've been playing for about a week and have loved every minute.
-Fairly fast leveling
-Good community and roleplayers so far
-Nice variety of classes and quests
-Large amount of emotes and the ability to play music (for people who enjoy roleplaying and hanging out)
-Housing system
-Ability to wear two cosmetic outfits separate of your armor while still keeping the stats
Those are just some highlights; message me if you want more info.
NOTE: There is a cash shop, but F2P players can get some Turbine Points from doing deeds. You may have to buy some points if you want to ride a mount/want some cosmetic items.

Gareth I find any movie based from any book sucks like Twilight, Harry potter and The witch the lion and the wardrobe. The books are better reads and the reason why is that corporations are just capitalizing on the product. Any book into a movie then into a game is JUST frustrating to me. Well, thats my take on it.

I plan on trying it as soon as I finish my Luxon title. As it's F2P now, there is nothing to lose by giving it a try, Karate. Just remember that it will not be like GW.

hm, pretty sure Lucas Arts have made some VERY worthy Star Wars games.
anyways I'm reading this thread hoping for a real in-depth response, as this could be a diversion until GW2.

Ty for the heads up on LOTRO. Too soon to draw any real conclusions, but I'm personally prejudiced against games that don't support click-to-move [It's a smoker thing].

This. Unfortunately I couldn't really enjoy it. The combat is pretty much boring IMO. The quests are repetitive, the graphic is a pretty intresting tho. On one side it is pretty awful ( snow, the starter area....), on the other side it can be pretty nice (cities, water, trees). + I learned I need 500silvers to get a normal mount, have now ~150... The lvling is okay, the interface is okay except I don't see the amount of money I own...
Alltogether it worth a try, but I wouldn't pay money for anything in that game.

It's totally free, but there is stuff you can purchase from their store to enhance it. I'm currently trying it out, it seems really grind oriented. I don't think I've leveled enough to have the skills unlocked to give a firm comment on the battle mechanics, but from what I've seen so far it's kind of meh.
